Ongoing photographic project documenting Marian Shrines (Catholic shrines and grottos dedicated to the Virgin Mary) around Ireland. These shrines are particularly prevalent in rural areas. Many were erected in the ‘Marian Year’ (1954), and most are maintained voluntarily by women from the surrounding areas. It is hoped that this project will expand to include interviews with these caretakers and input from researchers.
